Mao joined the Gabelli School of Business in 2013. His current work focuses on online education and team learning.

On Saturday, September 7, the Gabelli School of Business Graduate Student Advisory Council (SAC) hosted its Welcome Back Bash in the Costantino Room. 230 students were in attendance. Everyone enjoyed the food, drinks, and DJ. It was a great way to kick off the semester, with students from across the disciplines meeting and mingling! Thanks to everyone who put this wonderful event together.

Congratulations to Team Fordham Quants, which was chosen as one of five winners of the International Association of Quant Finance (IAQF) Thirteenth Annual Academic Affiliate Membership Student Competition. This is a prestigious competition, which requires students to research and develop a theoretical framework in mathematical finance, and write a research paper presenting their findings. Twenty-seven teams representing 12 academic programs submitted papers in response to this year's competition problem, which focused on risk neutral probabilities. The Fordham Gabelli School Team was led by student captain Ghaith Khmeydan, and included Hussein Salem, Faruque Khan, and Bryan Rodas. The team worked under the direction of Qing Sheng, Ph.D., associate professor of finance and director of the M.S. in Quantitative Finance. This is a major achievement and reflects the caliber of the M.S. in Quantitative Finance program, its teaching and leadership, and the incredibly hard work of the students. Congratulations to all!

As a cool pick-me-up during last week’s heat wav

As a cool pick-me-up during last week’s heat wave, and to celebrate the start of classes, the Gabelli School’s Student Success Center had a Mr. Softee ice cream truck outside of 140 West 62nd Street that provided free ice cream to students and staff members. It was a welcome respite from the heat, and everyone enjoyed chatting on the sidewalk while eating this tasty treat. Thanks Lonnie Kussin, Barbara Porco, Liz Ostler, Elizabeth Leonard, Ally Callaghan, and Beatriz Picard for making this possible!

During Orientation that was held at Fordham University’s Rose Hill Campus for Gabelli School of Business first-year students, attendees had the opportunity to meet and mingle with fellow classmates as they kicked off their college journey. Fordham University Provost, Dennis C. Jacobs, Ph.D.; Gabelli School of Business Dean, Lerzan Aksoy, Ph.D.; Associate Dean for Undergraduate Studies, Mark Silver, Ph.D., and Assistant Dean for First Year Students, Jesús Aceves Loza, among others, welcomed them. These newest members of the Gabelli School community also met with faculty members and administrators, had lunch in groups, and heard from alumni on a panel that focused on career paths and the ways in which the Gabelli School supported them through the internship and job search process.

On August 27, the incoming Lincoln Center campus undergraduate class was welcomed during Orientation. Decked out in their Fordham t-shirts, these first-year students had a great time getting to know one another and becoming acclimated to campus. Dean Lerzan Aksoy greeted the students. Associate Dean for Undergraduate Studies, Mark Silver, moderated a panel of four professors who represented all of the Lincoln Center undergraduate major areas of study within the business school. Students also went on an excursion in the neighborhood where they learned about the business and social challenges faced by street vendors. Thanks to Assistant Dean of the B.S. in Global Business, Vincent DeCola, SJ; Senior Assistant Dean for Undergraduate Studies, Marisa Villani; and everyone else involved in arranging this great day!

Congratulations to Thomas Hutton, GABELLI ’24, a

Congratulations to Thomas Hutton, GABELLI ’24, a highly successful graduate of the Full-time M.B.A. program, who was recently named as one of Poets&Quants MBAs To Watch – Class of 2024. Hutton, who is currently a development associate at Related Companies, was a dean’s scholar and president of the Fordham Real Estate Club. In addition to his academic achievements, he also demonstrated his commitment to “business with purpose” through his service to the Gabelli School community by mentoring first-year students and by championing positive change in society at large through his work to advance housing affordability for all New Yorkers.
