We are thrilled to announce that Fordham’s Gabelli School of Business has won the Zicklin Graduate Student Case Competition. The four M.S. in Marketing Intelligence students who competed were: Hiya Bagadia, Krishali Parmar, Shubha Joshi, and Tanya Gujjula. On Friday, April 12, over 40 alumni who were members of the Gabelli School of Business Graduate Student Advisory Council (SAC) as students, gathered with current and incoming members for a reunion event. The group shared their experiences and valuable knowledge while networking and enjoying spectacular views at the Castell Rooftop Lounge at the AC Hotel. Thank you to all SAC members—past, present, and future—for being a part of SAC and supporting Gabelli School students. Our deepest gratitude to Sam Owusu-Ansah, the current Full-time M.B.A. vice president for helping to put this fabulous event together!

Members of Fordham’s Gabelli School of Business EMBA Class of 2024 are in Seoul, Korea this week for their final residential. The week kicked off with a Seoul City Tour, which included Insadong, a pedestrianized main street that is packed with teahouses and shops; N Seoul Tower; Gyeongbok Palace, changing of the guard ceremony; and the National Folk Museum. The EMBA students also heard from members of Sogang University, the Jesuit University of South Korea. Corporate site visits and student consulting presentations also are underway.

On April 16, Ian Bremmer, political scientist, author, and president of Eurasia Group; and Fareed Zakaria, author, columnist, and host of CNN’s “Fareed Zakaria GPS,” enthralled an audience of 200+ on Fordham University’s Lincoln Center campus during a discussion based upon Zakaria’s new book, “Age of Revolutions: Progress and Backlash from 1600 to Present.” The talk was part of the “Financial Issues Forum” series hosted by the Gabelli School of Business, Gabelli Center for Global Security Analysis; the Museum of American Finance; and the CFA Society New York. The pair discussed the driving forces that served as catalysts for past revolutions, but also focused on the polarized and unstable environment in which we currently live.

Hanaa Fawzy, assistant dean for global Initiatives

Hanaa Fawzy, assistant dean for global Initiatives and partnerships, recently led a group of Gabelli School students on a visit to U.N. headquarters in NYC at the start of International Business Week: The Jesuit Perspective. Lauren Page, president of the International Business Student Association, helped coordinate the event. During their visit, they attended a briefing on climate change delivered by Laura Patterson, head of the WMO Liaison Office (the World Meteorological Organization). It was a perfect day to witness the eclipse from the U.N. terrace while gaining valuable insights into climate change and the significant roles played by organizations like the WMO. The group also visited the New York Stock Exchange. During the Fordham Foundry’s Pitch Challenge hel

During the Fordham Foundry’s Pitch Challenge held on April 11 at the Rose Hill Campus, eight teams of aspiring entrepreneurs from across Fordham University pitched their venture ideas to judges from top companies and organizations, with $25,000 distributed in seed funding. Four general track teams competed, focusing on start-ups across the spectrum, as well as four social impact teams, whose business models are designed to do well while doing good. Gabelli School of Business competitors did the School proud, taking first, second, and third place in the general track; and first place in the social impact track, in addition to securing the People’s Choice Award winner. Congrats to Gabelli School general track first-place winners, Lucas Labelle, GABELLI ’20 and Camila Magnan, founders of Mila Mend Inc.; second-place finalist, Anya Alfonsetti-Terry, a junior, for Spike Cover; and third-place finalist and People’s Choice Award winner, David Skinner, a sophomore, for Credentialed. In the social impact track, congrats to Shoval Liel ‘24, for Alliza. The Gabelli School of Business Center for Digital

The Gabelli School of Business Center for Digital Transformation (CDT) held its 11th Annual Deloitte March Data Crunch Madness on April 5. Designed to build upon the excitement of the National Collegiate Athletic Association’s (NCAA) Division I men’s and women’s basketball championship tournaments, the CDT competition challenges student teams to employ their analytics skills to predict the outcome of the NCAA Basketball tournament using publicly available data. As always, the displays created by the students were spectacular, and the methods used to distill down the data were incredibly impressive, making the judging quite difficult. In the end, honorable mentions went to Data Dunkers I and Data Dunkers III; third prize went to The Final Formulas; second prize went to Data Dunkers II; and first prize went to Predictive Gamemakers, with teammates Paola Rodriguez, Nadjia Tokovic, Anany Sharma, and Martin Hauytalla celebrating their tremendous success. Many thanks to the industry executives from Deloitte who helped judge the competition along with Jie Ren, Ph.D., associate professor, information, technology, and operations; and Yilu Zhou, Ph.D. associate professor, information, technology; Aditya Saharia, Ph.D., professor information, technology, and operations; and Kate Kennon, Ed.D., assistant dean, academic advising.
